Ozone Water Treatment Systems for Commercial Farming
Ozone is a powerful germicidal agent, far more powerful than chlorine and capable of neutralizing bacteria, viruses, fungi, mildew, and other organisms, all without toxic compounds or leaving harmful residues. This is why ozone has been used in applications such as wastewater treatment for many years, all over the world, producing water safe enough for use in irrigation.

Increased Dissolved Oxygen (DO)
Commercial growers who irrigate with water that contains super-saturated levels of dissolved oxygen (DO) can drastically increase the plants ability to utilize nutrients, defend against pathogens, provide faster plant yields, and significantly decrease plant shrink. When properly delivered to the plants root zone, DO water is critical to growing a healthier plant because it increases root mass while providing a strong aerobic environment for the root system. Although there are a few methods being used to increase DO levels in water, ozone is by far the most effective method for providing the highest levels of DO.
It is important to measure DO levels of the source water used for irrigation. It’s equally important to understand the results of the measurement and the impact it has on the plants. For example, pond water can have a very low level of DO, which negatively impacts plant health. But without testing this issue will never be diagnosed, let alone fixed.
DO levels at 5ppm are just barely adequate for plant health. Most greenhouse crops will perform well with levels of 8ppm or higher. If DO levels drop to 4ppm or lower, the water is considered hypoxic and can be very detrimental or even fatal to the plant. If DO levels are below 0.5ppm, no plant will survive. The Watson Well ozone treatment system can produce water with more than 40ppm of DO, which in some instances is more than a 300% increase. DO at these super-saturated levels is extremely beneficial to plants.
Water Filtration, Reduce Minerals & Heavy Metals
Water filtration is critical to ensuring plant health, as unfiltered water can contain organic material and oxidizing minerals, both of which consume dissolved oxygen in the raw water, as well as in storage tanks and water distribution systems.
Clean water will grow healthier and more profitable plants, so the critical first step in improving the quality of water starts with an effective filtration system. Each water source is different and provides its own unique set of filtration challenges.
Our system uses ozone to oxidize various contaminants and undesirable minerals, along with a variety of heavy metals including arsenic, lead, and cadmium. Once the contaminants are suspended in solution, they are easily removed from the water through filtration. Our ozone system will easily remove rotten egg smells or sulfur smells which are usually caused by the presence of hydrogen sulfide or bacteria in the source water, which is also detrimental to plant health.
Growers should know that these are not untested claims. For instance, ozone has long been used in industrial applications to oxidize harmful heavy metal contamination in wastewater and mine drainage to render the resulting water safe. Watson Well has simply made this technology accessible to farmers, growers, and other members of agricultural and food sectors.

Watson Well has designed and is manufacturing this all-in-one ozone water treatment system for commercial agricultural growers. We build our ozone systems on steel powder-coated skids in our Eureka warehouse, then ship them to local, in-state, and out-of-state customer sites, where final site connections can be easily made. Our water treatment systems are delivered as complete turnkey systems.
The system skids include a sub-panel for direct electrical connection. All the system components including pumps and filters are completely wired, plumbed, and pressure tested, making on-site installations clean, quick and efficient. All materials used in the manufacturing of our systems have the highest ozone resistance rating available.
Our ozone skid systems are completely scalable for specific customer requirements. We can make ozonated water from sources that produce as little as 5 gpm and are completely scalable up to any volume necessary. Our pressurized delivery systems, which distributes the filtered and super-saturated water, may also be scaled to meet very specific irrigation watering volumes.
All pumps are driven with variable frequency drives (VFD) to maximize electrical efficiencies. All skids have pre-treatment and post-treatment filters that will scale in size, based on the specific flow rates of the system and contamination levels in the water. All filter cleaning is fully automated using our clean water backwash technology.
Biofilm is the thick layer of greenish or brown scum lining the inside of pipes. In its earlier stages, it often manifests as a slippery, mostly clear material that can be felt inside pumps, pipes, water tanks, or other continuously wet surfaces. Virtually every greenhouse irrigation system has biofilm. Unfortunately, biofilm is a significant contributor to plant diseases because it can host bacteria, viruses, toxic algae, fungi, E. coli, and other harmful pathogens.
Many methods previously thought to destroy, eliminate, or reduce biofilm have been found to be ineffective. The most effective way to treat biofilm is with continuous ozone contact throughout the complete irrigation system. Ozone neutralizes free floating cells, kills bacterial biofilm on contact, detaches the matrix, and does not leave any negative residue harmful to plants. Our ozone treatment system can reverse this biofilm problem in greenhouses and provide plants with continuous protection from diseases caused or worsened by biofilm.
Ozone is the most effective way to disinfect water. Many municipal water systems are turning to ozone because of its ability to kill bacteria on contact which chlorine does not. Ozone is a very powerful germicidal agent. Pathogens that are even briefly exposed to ozone immediately disintegrate.
In water, ozone is 350 times more powerful than chlorine and anywhere from 10 times to 3,000 times faster acting than chlorine in killing total harmful microorganisms, including E. coli, as well as Giardia, Cryptosporidium, parasites, virus, fungi, iron bacteria, molds and other microbes found
By using ozone for disinfection, it eliminates the need for potentially dangerous or hazardous chemicals or other cumbersome disinfection techniques. In short, it’s the safest, most efficient, fastest, and most natural form of organic disinfection for water available.

When our well stopped producing water this summer, I called Watson Well. They used a special pump and opened up the well from 67’ to 132’. While inspecting the well with a video camera, they found that the wells steel casing had deteriorated in a number of places leaving large holes where sand and gravel were continuing to enter the well. They immediately installed a new liner and gravel packed the well. Our well has never produced this much water volume in twenty years of living on this property. We are also noticing a tremendous improvement in the quality of the water.

As Public Works Director for the Bear River Band of the Rohnerville Rancheria, I have contracted with Watson Well on five different projects for the tribe, here in Loleta, CA. Thank you so much for the excellent response and care we have received. Your crew was courteous, prompt, clean, knowledgeable and very hard working!
It is hard to believe that it has been 9 months since I called you with an “out of water” problem on our property. It is not the call that any one on a well wants to make during a record breaking drought. You were here in a very short time and after taking in all the normal diagnostics you were concerned about us being dry but not convinced it was a true dry well. I think we were very fortunate that you had the ability to put a camera down our well to see what was happening and came up with a plan to rehabilitate our well after you discovered our weep holes for the well were plugged with iron bacteria, calcium and stuff. It gave us hope that we could get this reliable well up and running. You pulled the pump and line and determined that pump was fine. Once that was clear you put in the proper chemicals and literally scrubbed our well pipe of the “stuff” and found that our well was over 200’ deep. Water flowed and once the junk was sucked out of the well bottom and the chemicals neutralized we had 18’ more water which put us at over a 50’ column of water, of course this was fantastic. While here, all new water line and electrical wire was reinstalled and new electronics that were more current and a vast improvement of what we had. Since then the water keeps flowing with generous amounts and quality.

During the past two years, Watson Well has designed, constructed, and maintained a number of different projects at my home.
