Fusarium Wilt Treatment: The Problem

Fusarium is a fungus that lives in the ground and attacks plants in multiple ways depending on the species. Fusarium can be one of the most damaging threats to farmers and growers killing an entire crop in days. Once it’s discovered it is often too late, so a plan for prevention is highly advised. For commercial farms such as winemakers and cannabis growers, fusarium can be an extremely expensive problem.
Fusarium spores and the mycelia clog the vascular vessels of cash crops, specifically the roots, which prevents the plants from using nutrients in the soil. Plants begin to transpire more than they can transport water and nutrients, the stomata close, the leaves wilt, and the plant dies. After the plant dies, the fungus lives on to invade and infect neighboring plants.
By using ozone for disinfection, it eliminates the need for potentially dangerous or hazardous chemicals or other cumbersome disinfection techniques. In short, it’s the safest, most efficient, fastest, and most natural form of organic disinfection for water available.

Fusarium wilt in cannabis is especially problematic because of how quickly an entire crop can be ruined. An additional problem for cannabis growers is that buds infected with Fusarium may not smell or look moldy but FAIL lab testing.

Fusarium Wilt Symptoms

The signs of fusarium in your cannabis plants or vineyard are yellowing and/or wilting leaves. Stunted growth and root and stem decay are also signs. Fungal growth on the stem is also evidence of fusarium.

Fusarium Wilt in Cannabis

Fusarium is especially problematic for cannabis growers because of how quickly an entire crop can be ruined. To reproduce, Fusarium fungus does not create seeds like plants do, but produces three types of asexual spores: microconidia, macroconidia, and chlamydospores. This helps Fusarium quickly spread through a growing operation.
