Water filtration, also known as water conditioning is critical to ensuring plant health. Unfiltered water can contain excessive levels of minerals, heavy metals or other organics that can contribute to poor crop performance or even excessive crop losses. Untreated water can also transmit pathogens, fungi, or mold spores that can negatively impact the plants health, yield and overall quality of the crop. Watson Well designs and installs agricultural water treatment systems that are specific to the unique issues of each farm’s water source. Vineyards, mixed greens, cannabis, cut flowers are just a few of the AG customers we work with.
We solve hard water issues using water softeners. Depending on flow rate demands, our water softener solutions may include single filter units to multiple Duplex or Triplex units all including the latest in metered valve technology which provides significant efficiencies and cost savings by automatically scheduling regeneration periods based on actual water volumes used through the filters.
Other issues can be regional and may require a combination of technologies to purify the water. During the drought of the west, we see the concentration of sodium, selenium, boron, and sulfides increasing beyond dangerous levels in well water severely impacting the health of the plants.
Indoor grows can face unique challenges when required to use condensate water which can introduce pathogens or possibly heavy metals to the plants. The use of untreated canal water can introduce pathogens to the crops. Dissolved oxygen levels can become dangerously low for plants that are watered with pond water. Pond water can be the source of pythium or fusarium contamination introduced to the plants through the watering of untreated water. Biofilm contamination is another serious issue often overlooked by farms. Biofilm can clog delivery systems and impact the running efficiencies of water pumps. Biofilm is a known host for pathogens. It also consumes valuable dissolved oxygen in the water which impacts the soils and plants.
Listed are some of the different technologies we utilize and integrate into our designs for agricultural water treatment systems. As mentioned, depending on the issue, we may use one or any combination of these technologies –
